Mumbai Film & Comic Convention 2012 -- Comic Fans Festival!!!

It was October 20th Saturday morning around 9:40 when myself and my friend reached World Trade Center which is in cuff parade Mumbai.

The first ever action packed Mumbai Film and Comic Convention was organised by Comic Con India over the weekend of October 20-21 at the World Trade Centre, Cuff Parade, Mumbai.

With the increasing synergy between films and comics, Comic Con India found Mumbai to be the ideal place to introduce the brand new convention – 'Mumbai Film and Comics Convention'.

An event dedicated to Comics, films and everything in between.

I have visited Mumbai only when i was a kid, Its good to be at the bussiness capital of our country Mumbai.

The First ever Mumbai Film & Comic Con started around 10:30 am, people have already started gathering in Cos Play outfits.

The event had stalls exhibiting, promotion and selling comics, graphic novels, merchandise etc.

There were screenings, previews, panels from Indian & international films;

workshops and interactive sessions happening every half an hour at the dedicated stage area.

Also, there were some exclusive launches of Comic book titles, book signings, competitions etc.

The opening day of the Mumbai Film and Comics Convention saw the latest issue of the Indian Comic Journal (ICJ) being unveiled by author & an artist Mr. Abid Surti.

People came dressed as their favourite comic & movie characters.

Because it was a Film and comic con, filmy costumes were also allowed.

There were many kids wearing different costumes such as Spongebob, Batman, Naruto, batman, star wars etc.

There were COSPLAYERS. At the end of each day the best COSPLAYER would be declared as a winner and he/she would be given goodies.

And the Winner of COS PLAY is :

"We saw everyone having a wonderful time taking part in the variety of interactive sessions. Fans from all age groups eagerly flocked at the different Comics/ Graphic Novels' stalls. Comics and Movie Merchandise including Apparel, Toys- Action Figures, Mugs, Posters and even Superhero USB drives, Calendars was a huge hit." -- Said Jatin Varma, Founder, Comic Con India.

Day 1 saw an interactive and playful panel discussion with IRock films on their high concept youth oriented films. Siddhartha M. Jain, Producer& CEO, IRock Films along with guest actors Shazahn Padamsee, Rajat Barmecha & Nafisa Jiah Khan kept the audiences engrossed.

There was a Retrospective Panel on 30 years of " Jaane bhi do yaroon" with Director Kundan Shah.

The pioneers of India's comic book revolution – Amar Chitra Katha, took a special session on their feature film "SONS OF RAM – Heroes will Rise", with the voice cast and creative team behind the film.

For the first time in india, Hachette Book Publishing launched a brilliantly drawn and darkly comic literary graphic novel, " Sudhershan. It was a deeply moving and darkly comic tale of a chimp in Bollywood, and the creatures – human or otherwise in his life"

Everyone had a great time on DAY 1 and they couldn't just wait to come again the next day.

Day 2 started fine with the COS PLAY participants numbers raising to around 75.

The day was colourfull with all our favourite stars around. The show is stolen by many cat women

Day 1 had few great visitors such as Raghu and Vishwa who alos have a very similar collection to that of Arun.

They were interviewed by a great comic fan Sreejith from Mumbai whom i happened to get aquainted with.

Day 2 had a special interview from Arun a wild collector of old Vintage comics.

Sreejith and Arun.

Some of Aruns Collections which were displayed in both Banglore as well as Mumbai Comic Con are:

  1. Nice coverage of Mumbai Film and Comic Con, Shri. I heard it was far better than the last year venture.

Hope they do return for Mumbai, every year. I see no reason they shouldn't.
